So I’m playing drums in a movie that won an Oscar for Best Original Score.

It’s a surreal feeling to hear my own sounds that I know so well incorporated into a movie on the big screen.
I imagine that’s what Shelly Manne felt when he saw The Pink Panther in theaters.
I’m happy to have helped Daniel Blumberg and Brady Corbet realize their vision of epic cinema, even if I was only a small part of it.
Daniel was very brave to choose these musicians and this approach for his work, and I congratulate him on his well-deserved success.
I’m also especially happy that they made sure to name all the musicians involved in the credits.
Here are some photos of the recording session I was involved in, which took place here in Berlin in January 2024.
I recorded some quartets with Simon Sieger, Tom Wheatley and Axel Dörner, a duo with Axel and a few other things.
There was no written music for us, so we were able to contribute creatively to the music.
And Daniel Blumberg, who composed the music, treated us very respectfully and even mentioned all the “radical, uncompromising” musicians who played on the soundtrack when he received his trophy.
The soundtrack is available on Daniel’s YouTube channel, and he lists all the musicians involved for each track. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1-eLTSj-yiqNUjicRw1asQEs3O1V6vcB

Finally, my kids can brag about what I do for a living after years of making jokes about starving jazz musicians (what does a jazz musician do when he wins a million in the lottery? He plays until he runs out of money). I still don’t make a lot of money, but my social status has risen, at least with my kid
